#Painting and #Rheumatoid Arthritis and a look at my beginning painting, the "Bubba" Paintings

Painting and #Rheumatoid Arthritis

Some days I can, some days I can't.  As any artist/creative person knows, when the urge/idea hits you, you must paint/create.  There are those "flare-up" days when you just can't lift a finger and it not only hurts in your joints, but your mind.  It is hard enough when an artist is "blocked" but when you literally cannot move because of pain, it is like hitting you from both directions.  On those days you rest, but I have a person to fall back on and that's #Julia Cameron, the author of #The Artist's Way.  What a great book to help you through those hard times.

I have mentioned Julia before but here is a link to a video by her that describes one of the most helpful tools used in "The Artist's Way".   This book is for everyone, whether painter, writer, professional to the stay-at-home mom.  Each and every one of us has inner thoughts and feelings that we tend to put on the back burner and studying "The Artist's Way" will become an essential for pulling you out of the doldrums and a "must have" for your library.   I have gotten small groups of friends together to "work" "The Artist's Way" and it has truly helped a lot of people.  Julia refers to "brain drain" when writing your Morning Pages, which means throw all of your thoughts ("hand-written") on three pages each morning.  I have found that writing these pages in the morning when you first get up with your morning coffee and the day has not begun, is crucial to being truthful with yourself and your feelings.

Suffering with a chronic disease affects you physically and mentally.  Most people need help and are afraid to ask for it from friends and family and/or professionally.  The cost of this book, around $15.00, is well worth it.  Writing of the Morning Pages will be so beneficial to you, that if you miss a day, you will feel it.

Here are some of my first "Bubba" paintings that I painted.  My husband suggested the theme and using the "faceless" people I had been painting and for some reason, they were a hit.

This is Bubba, my poodle who was totally devoted to me.  Bubba has been gone many years now, but he was a sweet, loving ball of fur.  He would always sit in the front window awaiting my arrival.

I must admit, I do love snowfall in the South !
"Snow on Buddha's belly"

"Snowing through the window screen"

"A little chilly for an Auburn Tiger"

The saga continues...Snow storm if January 2014...

I have been waiting, not so patiently, for my first #Rheumatologist appointment in almost two years.  My last was in New Orleans in November of 2012.   Since acquiring medical insurance, in May of 2013, I contacted the doctor here and could not get in until January 29, 2014.   So I have been waiting at least six months.

Here comes the snow, the day before my appointment and like in most Southern towns, just the mention of the white stuff shuts everything down.   I am always a little nervous before these appointments, but had psyched myself up for the moment, then shut down.   They did call me to re-schedule and now February 7 is on the horizon.

I am dutifully making my "ask the doctor" list, along with a list of my medications.  I guess I just conjure up all kinds of maladies before each appointment.  I don't believe he will be prepared to give me an hour of his time!!

Went for my appointment and really liked the doctor.  He actually listened to me.  He is keeping me on same meds:  Prednisone, Methotrexate injections, Plaquinil, Folic Acid and thyroid.  I did inform him that depression and anxiety had shown their ugly heads and he tried me on Effexor....took one and felt strange all day so that was the end of that.   Next appointment in 3 months.
